Our PRESENT
After 1955, the Theatre continued to operate… as a Twin Movie Theatre, a Church, a Pizza Parlor and finally a Restaurant. Although it was remodeled time and time again, unfortunately restoration and preservation were never taken into account to protect this vitally important part of history.
Then as time would have it, the last occupant abandoned the building and The Carolina Theatre sat vacant for many years. Years that only added to an already growing state of disrepair. The building has gone through many changes and no longer reflects the allure and attraction it once held.
In the 90’s, the owner, Tom Moore passed away and the building was sold. The dividing wall of the twin theatre was removed and a wood floor installed to eliminate the original sloping floor.
The towns folk, who had once enjoyed soon-
But in 2004, General Contractor Bill Hudson and Mechanical Contractor, Davis Godwin, both from Mitchell County, purchased the Theatre. Their Mission: To preserve this priceless piece of history and to restore it to a functional, sustainable facility that will serve the community and surrounding areas for generations to come.
“We believe the Carolina Theatre is: A gem not found in any mine"!
